I congratulate and celebrate with my good, hospitable and esteemed Community on the auspicious occasion of the 2023 New Yam Festival.
Being a symbolism of cultural rebirth and a traditional ritual that contributes immensely to our historical identity as a people, the importance of the new yam festival cannot be overestimated. Among many other things, it is a testament to the resilience and hard work of our people. I therefore take the opportunity of this celebration to commend our farmers who have kept the festival alive by producing yams, the king of crops and the very quintessence of the celebration.
Beyond the yam and other farm produce which constitutes today\’s celebration, a time like this also avails us the opportunity to celebrate our unity which is at the foundation of our society. As you embark on this cultural rejuvenation, I urge you to sustain those ideals that will help to unite the people for a greater prospect and prosperity. As the peace loving people, I beseech you to continue to maintain cordial relationships with your neighbours, far and near.
It is my prayer that as we celebrate the bountiful harvest of this year in appreciation to nature and God, the coming years will be more fruitful. I once again congratulate you and wish you increased prosperity, peace, love and harmony.
