Sequel to the above subject matter, the House Committee on Students\’ Week
formally brings to your attention concerning serious allegations of gross misconduct, negligence of office and embezzlement of funds against the Vice President of the Students\’ Union Government at the University of Calabar.
This petition is submitted by the House Committce on Students\’ Weck, highlighting several concerns that warrant immediate inyestigation.
GROUNDS OF PETITION
1. Misuse/Embezzlement of Funds Meant for Students\’ Week:
i. Lack of financial support from the Vice President to Forums of Faculty
Presidents and Directors of Socials reveals a misuse of funds meant for the students\’ week, contrasting with the approved funds by the school.
ii. The Vice President, Sen. Precious Gospel Zion, is accused of misusing Union funds for personal interests. A detailed account of how the Union\’s money was utilized during the recently concluded Students\’
week is urgently required.
2. Neglect of Faculty Presidents and Directors of Socials:
i. The refusal of the Vice President to engage with Faculty Presidents resulted in
neglecting Nigerian students, leading to disruptions and withdrawals from the
Forum of Faculty Presidents.
ii. Failure to involve the Forum of Faculty Directors of Socials impacted the
organization of students into competing bands, as reported by the concerned
forum.
3. Negligence towards the Constitution;
i. The Vice President\’s negligence towards the constitution is evident in the non-
appointment of the Deputy Secretary General as the secretary of the students\’
week planning committee, as mandated by Section 19 (3) and Section 75 (1) of the 2014 Amended SUG constitution.
4. Inadequate Care for Nigerian Students:
i. Nigerian students faced inadequate care during the students\’ week, including a
lack of refreshments despite extended participation in the activities.
ii. Only 50 students received Students\’ Week polo t-shirts during the opening
ceremony, leaving many Nigerians students without this essential item.
iii. There was no provision for medical intervention during the marathon race in
case of accidents/emergencies.
5. Nepligence Towards the 10\’ SUG Senate:
i. The Senate expresses deep displcasure at the Vice President\’s neglect, with no
provision or recognition made for them during any of the events.
ii. Failure to provide Students\’ week T-shirts to Senators further emphasizes
negligence.
RELIEF SOUGHT:
i. The House Committee on Students Week urgently requests the Vice President to
provide a detailed and transparent account of how the Union\’s money was spent
during the students\’ week.
ii. As provided by Section S5, subsection 1(d) of the 2014 Amended SUG
Constitution, the House Committee on Students\’ Week requests the Vice President; Sen. Precious Gospel Zion is suspended from office pending an investigation into allegations of misappropriation and embezzlement of the Union\’s funds.
iii. Upon confirmation of guilt following the completion of the investigation, the House
Committee on Students\’ Weck formally requests the prompt impeachment of the
Vice President; Sen. Precious Gospel Zion as provided in Section 55, subsection 1e.
