The Open Day Event is being organized under the UN Women Zonal Coordination Mechanism for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls, aimed at showcasing UN Women and their partners accountability to women and girls through various normative, coordination, and programmatic programs.
The UN women open day event brought together relevant government ministries, agencies, and departments. networks and coalitions, implementing partners of UN Women, traditional and religious institutions, academia, the media, and other stakeholders to exchange with UN Women.
The interaction facilitated a better understanding of what UN women are doing in the host state in line with her triple mandates and also allowed UN women to receive firsthand feedback from stakeholders.
The event also provided UN Women’s partners and beneficiaries with the opportunity to share how programs have impacted them, advocate for more responses in areas where gaps exist, and solicit more investment for the betterment of women and girls in Cross River State.

The Special Assistant On Gender Mainstreaming Utibe-Abasi Bassey-Duke in her remarks commended the UN Women for their work in Cross River State. She highlighted that she was part of the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative where she built the capacity of 200 women at Akamkpa and Odukpani on preventing Sexual and Gender Based Violence and SRHR.
She also stated that the Governor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, is at the forefront of promoting gender equality in the state in ways such as creating the Department of Gender Mainstreaming to ensure the government integrates gender equality perspective in its programmes, policies and plans..
