REP. BASSEY AKIBA’S MESSAGE TO MARK THE 2024 INT’L DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
Dear Constituents,
As we observe the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we come together to celebrate the resilience, strength, and contributions of persons with disabilities in our society. This day serves as a reminder of the ongoing journey towards inclusivity, accessibility, and equality for all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
This year’s theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future,” highlights the leadership role of persons with disabilities and their participation in decision-making processes that affect their lives.
We must acknowledge that people with disabilities face unique challenges and barriers that hinder their full participation in society. It is our duty to advocate for policies that promote accessibility in our communities, ensure equal opportunities in education and employment, and foster an environment where everyone can thrive.
Let us unite in our efforts to break down these barriers. Together, we can build a society that not only recognizes the rights of persons with disabilities but also empowers them to achieve their fullest potential.
Rep. Bassey Akiba
Member, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency
