Cross River Govt Reaffirms Support for National Blood Service Agency

The Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the National Blood Service Agency in Calabar. This comes after the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Ajuk, earlier visited the facility, demonstrating the government’s dedication to its success.

Mr. Esu emphasized the need for support from partners and donors joining hands with Governments to upgrade the center to a state-of-the-art blood bank, which would serve not just Cross River State but also neighboring states. He encouraged staff to continue sensitizing the public about the importance of blood donation.

“The state government has pledged to continue partnering with the National Blood Service Agency to provide safe and healthy blood for citizens. Mr. Esu said, “The state government will continue to partner with the National Blood Service Agency and relevant bodies to provide safe and healthy blood for our citizens”.

The State Director of the National Blood Service Agency, Dr. Bassey Okon Bassey expressed gratitude to the Special Assistant for visiting the facility. He highlighted the need for strengthened collaboration between the state government and the Federal Ministry of Health to address challenges and make the blood bank a regional hub. Dr. Bassey Okon stated, “This center is positioned to serve not just Cross River State but also neighboring states, and with sophisticated equipment to screen blood, we require support to maintain its functionality and achieve our goals.” Dr Bassey Okon also stated that “the National DG, National Blood Service Agency, Prof Saleh Yuguda who is in charge of all state and zonal NBSA facilities, including the Headquarter in Abuja is working assiduously to ensure renovation, upgrading and re- equipping the state facility to meet up global standards”.
