Nigerian Association Of Resident Doctors (NARD) issues 10-Day Ultimatum to Federal Government, Threatens Nationwide Strike

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has given the federal government a 10-day ultimatum, threatening a nationwide strike if their welfare demands are not met.

The ultimatum, which expires on September 10 was a key outcome of the association’s recent Extraordinary National Executive Council meeting on Sunday.

The decision follows a series of unfulfilled promises by the government. NARD had previously issued a three-week ultimatum in July, which they extended by another three weeks in a bid to allow for negotiations.

Resident Doctors Strike date:

Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors Is slated to start from September 1 till Sept 10, 2025) to meet urgent demands or face a Nationwide Strike.

KEY ISSUES

  • Unpaid 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF)
  • Salary arrears & unpaid 2024 accoutrement allowance
  • Delayed recognition/issuance of postgraduate certificates (MDCN & NPMCN)
  • Neglect of welfare issues in Kaduna & Oyo States

NARD DEMANDS:

  • Immediate payment of all outstanding funds
  • Full recognition of postgraduate certificates
  • Urgent resolution of doctors’ welfare crises
    Doctors warn: Inaction = Total shutdown of Health
