The PDP Advocacy for Peace and Justice wishes to commend the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for taking the bold and timely decision to dissolve the Aniekan Akpan–led State Executive Committee in Akwa Ibom State. This decisive intervention has once again proven that the NEC remains committed to safeguarding the ideals of the PDP and ensuring that no individual interest is allowed to undermine the collective destiny of the party in our state.
The NEC’s decision could not have come at a better time. Under Mr. Aniekan Akpan’s leadership, the party was reduced to silence and inaction at a period when it most needed strength, vibrancy, and direction. The defection of a sitting governor to the opposition party under Aniekan Akpan watch was a blow that shook the foundations of the PDP in Akwa Ibom. Instead of rallying members, galvanizing the structures, and giving hope to the faithful, Mr. Akpan chose complacency and misplaced loyalty. His recent public alignment with Mr. Nyesom Wike – an architect of division and destabilization at the national level – was the last straw, confirming the depth of betrayal our party had endured.
The PDP, however, is greater than any individual. It is a movement that has been built through sacrifice, loyalty, and years of service from elders, youths, women, and grassroots members across the 329 wards of Akwa Ibom State. It is, therefore, refreshing and reassuring that the NEC has handed the leadership of the party in Akwa Ibom to a competent and trusted hand, in the person of Hon. Igwat Umoren, as caretaker chairman.
Hon. Umoren embodies the qualities of consultation, inclusiveness, and grassroots mobilization that the PDP urgently requires. He understands the need to reawaken the party spirit, rebuild confidence among members, and reposition the PDP to reclaim its rightful place as the platform of hope, unity, and progress in Akwa Ibom State. We are confident that under his stewardship, the PDP will emerge more united, more purposeful, and more formidable than ever before.
We call on all faithful members of the PDP in Akwa Ibom to rally behind the caretaker leadership. The time for silence and betrayal is gone. The time for rebuilding, reconciliation, and collective action has come. Together, we can ensure that the umbrella remains strong, unbroken, and firmly held above all Akwa Ibomites.
Once again, we salute the NEC for this courageous and patriotic action. History will record it as the turning point that repositioned the Akwa Ibom PDP on the path of victory.
Signed:
