The Honorable Commissioner for Commerce, Hon. Abigail Duke, on behalf of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, today inaugurated the State Steering Committee on Trade Policy a significant step toward enhancing the economic and commercial landscape of the State.

Speaking during the inauguration held at the Ministry of Commerce Conference Hall in Calabar, Hon. Abigail Duke noted that the establishment of the Steering Committee aligns with the “People-First Agenda” of the present administration, which prioritizes economic growth, sustainable investment, and inclusive development across all sectors.

She emphasized that the Trade Policy Committee is tasked with formulating a comprehensive and inclusive Cross River State Trade Policy Framework that will strengthen trade relations, promote industrial development, improve ease of doing business, and create a conducive environment for both local and international investors.

 

In her address, the Commissioner reiterated that trade remains a vital tool for economic transformation, adding that the Committee’s work will ensure that Cross River State becomes a competitive trade hub within the South-South region and beyond.

She commended the members of the Steering Committee, drawn from relevant Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and the organized private sector, for accepting to serve, urging them to bring their wealth of experience and expertise to bear in developing a forward-looking trade policy for the State.

On behalf of the Executive Governor, Hon. Duke reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting all initiatives that will drive commerce, job creation, and sustainable development in Cross River State.
