The Commissioner for Justice in Cross River State, Hon. Ededem Ani, has commenced the Back to School Programs aimed at supporting children from indigent homes across all wards in Odukpani Local Government Area.

The programme officially took off at Ukwa Ibom Community, Odukpani LGA, where 14 carefully selected and 72 students and their parents from Mbiabo/Obomitiat/Ediong ward and Odukpani central ward also benefited from the initiative. Each beneficiary received ₦25,000 as educational support to assist with school needs and encourage continued learning.

The Commissioner for Justice was ably represented at the event by Mr. Ita Asuquo, who commended the visionary leadership of Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu and his wife, as well as Hon. Ededem Ani for initiating the project. He noted that the intervention reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening the educational system and supporting vulnerable families. Mr. Asuquo explained that the funds were presented in cash to both parents and pupils to ensure transparency and direct impact.

The Principal of the community Secondary school in Ukwa Ibom, Mrs. Ekanem Emem Osuabanga, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor, the First Lady, and the Commissioner for Justice for bringing the Back to School Programme to Ukwa Ibom Community for the first time. She described the initiative as unprecedented in the area and pledged the school’s full support to the current administration.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries’ parents in Ukwa Ibom, Mr. Bassey Ekpenyong Nsungo thanked the government for the thoughtful gesture, stating that such support had never been extended to the community before. He expressed gratitude to all those who made the programme a reality and reaffirmed his support for the administration.

Ewa Ekeng who was an eye witness during the back to school cash presentation which consist of Mbiabo/Obomitiat/Ediong ward shared his gratitude to the commissioner for just Hon. Ededem Ani for his support towards the less privileged students in his ward and Mbiabo/Obomitiat/Ediong ward, which is a great encouragement for education in the state.

In a vote of thanks, delivered by Hon. Asako E. Okon, appreciation was extended to the state government, particularly Hon. Ededem Ani, for ensuring a fair and transparent selection process. He emphasized that the beneficiaries were genuinely needy children and not selected based on personal interests.

The Back to School Programme marks another significant step by the Cross River State Government toward inclusive development and equal access to education for children in underserved communities.
