The University of Calabar has honoured distinguished personalities with doctoral degrees during its 38th Convocation Ceremony, recognizing their contributions to leadership, governance, and national development.

Among the notable recipients is the Governor of Cross River State, Bassey Edet Otu, who was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Political Science (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his impact in public service and governance.

Also honoured is the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, who earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law, marking a significant academic milestone alongside his legislative career.

Former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and ex-member of the House of Representatives, Onofiok Luke, was also conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), further underscoring his academic and professional accomplishments.
In addition, Peter Akonfe Undiandeye, Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, received a PhD in Petroleum Geophysics, highlighting his commitment to academic excellence and sectoral development.
The ceremony forms part of UNICAL’s tradition of celebrating excellence, scholarship, and impactful leadership, as the institution continues to produce graduates and honour individuals who contribute meaningfully to society.
