The adage, “You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time,” rings particularly true for the people of Cross River State’s Central Senatorial District.
We find ourselves once again witnessing Professor Sandy Onor’s attempts to manipulate the political landscape, a strategy that previously saw him secure a Senate seat under questionable circumstances, allegedly orchestrated by his Rivers State political patron, former Governor Wike.

It is perplexing that the memory of such external manipulation, which seemingly overrode the will of the Central Senatorial District, appears to have faded so quickly. Yet, it is imperative for all Cross Riverians to recognize that former Governor Wike is once again at the heart of this latest maneuver – this time, attempting to push Professor Sandy Onor for the presidential ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). This move is particularly audacious given Professor Onor’s consistent track record as a serial loser in every election he has independently contested within Cross River State.
Cross River State is a sophisticated and divinely guided entity, far too astute to fall for such transparent ploys. Former Governor Wike’s repeated attempts to use our dear state as a testing ground for his political experiments are destined for colossal failure. This strategy is transparently nothing more than a thinly veiled distraction from the state’s admirable governance and the unwavering confidence the ruling party enjoys among Cross Riverians.
We issue a stern warning to those who persist in using Cross River State as a chessboard for their self-serving political experiments. How can Senator Sandy Ojang Onor, who demonstrably failed to secure a win in his own ward or local government during the 2023 governorship election, now be presented through external arrangements as a credible presidential contender? This is a brazen attempt to sow discord and divert attention.
Furthermore, during his tenure as a Senator, Professor Onor conspicuously failed to commission any meaningful projects within the Central Cross River region. Instead, he abandoned his senatorial duties to aggressively pursue a governorship ambition, directly contravening the long-established zoning arrangement within the state – an arrangement that predates his entry into politics. Indeed, his desperate pursuit nearly shattered the state’s meticulously cultivated mutual zoning agreement.
Professor Sandy Onor’s fundamental flaw lies in his profound sense of self-entitlement. It is crucial to emphasize that his political machinations do not serve the interests of Cross River State, nor those of Nigeria. His actions are solely representative of his personal ambitions.
As the central region, we unequivocally reject this externally imposed ambition. We will decisively retire this manufactured candidacy with our votes. Our allegiance firmly lies with our Southern candidate, President Bola Tinubu.
As Cross River State continues its trajectory of growth and aligns with the federal government’s political realities, we reiterate our unwavering confidence in President Tinubu as our singular presidential candidate. We are committed to doing everything within our power to safeguard this interest. Our votes will be cast exclusively for President Bola Tinubu and our esteemed Governor Otu, without deviation.
Moreover, let it be known that upon the expiration of Governor Otu’s second term, the transition of power in Cross River State shall be entirely devoid of any external interference or manipulation. This is precisely why Professor Sandy Onor’s “second missionary journey” – his latest ploy to destabilize the political serenity of Cross River State – has been thoroughly exposed. Let this serve as a clear warning to all: do not fall prey to Governor Wike’s political experiments in Cross River State.
