Responds to Trending police extortion video and alleged weed possession
RE: ALLEGED POLICE HARASSMENT AND EXTORTION BY MEN OF ETUNG DIVISION*
The attention of the Cross River State Police Command has been drawn to a video currently circulating on social media by one influencer known as Mc Okrika, alleging harassment and extortion of two individuals, namely Israel Nwafor and Abraham Friday, which occurred at a nipping point close to the Etung Divisional Headquarters on the 13 of May 2026 by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and some of his personnel.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, upon being briefed on the allegations, expressed concern over the incident and has caused an inquiry into the matter and any officer found wanting will be sanctioned according to the extant laws regarding disciplinary procedures of the force.
The Commissioner of Police has also directed that the said individuals be invited to the Command Headquarters for an interview to enable the Command obtain firsthand information and ensure a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter.
It is important to state that Etung Local Government Area is a strategic border community adjoining the Republic of Cameroon and, as such, requires heightened and proactive security measures aimed at curbing cross-border crimes, illegal movements, and the activities of armed foreign elements, including Ambazonian separatist groups.
The Command considers allegations of harassment, extortion, or any form of unprofessional conduct against members of the Force very seriously and wishes to assure the public that due process will be strictly followed in the handling of the case.
