The Peoples Democratic Party has successfully concluded its House of Representatives primary elections across Cross River State ahead of the 2027 General Elections, with Rt. Hon. Egbona Alex Egbona emerging as the party’s flag bearer for the Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency.
The primaries, held on May 17, 2026, were conducted across the various federal constituencies under the supervision of the Cross River State House of Representatives Primaries Electoral Committee, alongside officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies including the Nigeria Police Force, DSS, and NSCDC.
The exercise was conducted in accordance with the PDP constitution, party guidelines, and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Jackson Nweke, declared the following aspirants winners of the PDP House of Representatives tickets in their respective constituencies:
- Rt. Hon. Alex Egbona — Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency
- Hon. Friday Okpechi — Obubra/Etung Federal Constituency
- Mr. Egoro Fidelis — Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency
- Mr. Pius Besong Abang — Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency
- Prof. Zana Akpagu — Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency
- Mr. Bassey O. Bassey — Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency
- Mrs. Peace Eyo Ndem — Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal Constituency
- Mrs. Affiong Okon Ita — Odukpani/Calabar Municipality Federal Constituency
Speaking after the exercise, the Cross River State PDP Chairman, Barr. Venatius Ikem, commended aspirants, party faithful, stakeholders, and delegates for their peaceful conduct and commitment to internal democracy throughout the process.
He described the primaries as successful, transparent, and reflective of the wishes of party members across the state.
Party stakeholders and observers also applauded the conduct of the exercise, describing it as free, fair, and credible.
