Hon. Thankgod Ekpunse Empowers Over 100 Beneficiaries In Landmark Outreach Programme
In a remarkable demonstration of visionary leadership, compassion, and commitment to grassroots development, the Legislative Leader of Etung Local Government Council, Hon.ThankGod Ekpunse Ojong, on Saturday, 20th June 2026, empowered over one hundred beneficiaries through a mega empowerment programme personally initiated and sponsored by him.
The historic initiative featured the distribution of cocoa spraying pumps, gas cylinders to households, wrappers to women, and educational support through the payment of school fees for students in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. The programme has been widely described as one of the most impactful empowerment interventions in the history of Etung Local Government Area and a shining example across Cross River State of how legislative leadership can be translated into tangible benefits for the people.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Ekpunse stated that the empowerment programme was his modest contribution to the “Season of Sweetness” agenda of the administration of the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu and also expressed profound gratitude to the Governor for creating opportunities for young leaders to serve and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
According to him, the initiative was designed to bring the dividends of good governance directly to the doorsteps of the people of Etung, improve livelihoods, support education, enhance economic productivity across the local Government area and further noted that his motivation was to ensure that future opportunities for young leaders would be judged by the positive impact of those previously entrusted with leadership responsibilities while emphasizing that leadership must be measured by service and tangible contributions to society.
Hon. Ekpunse assured beneficiaries that the intervention was only the beginning, pledging to sustain programmes aimed at improving the welfare and socio economic well being of his constituents and also urged the people of Etung to remain steadfast in their support for the administration of Governor Bassey Otu, stressing that greater opportunities and developmental gains would continue to reach the grassroots through collaborative governance and responsible leadership.
