Families and residents of Omugo community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State have expressed joy following the release of the three remaining worshippers of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Omugo, who were held captive for 105 days.
The victims regained their freedom after being abducted during a Sunday worship service on March 22, 2026, when suspected kidnappers stormed the church and whisked away eight worshippers.
Among those released are three women, including a hearing-impaired widow, whose return has been described by residents as a moment of relief and thanksgiving after months of uncertainty and anguish.
The release of the final three captives marks the end of the prolonged ordeal that gripped the Omugo community and sparked widespread concern over the safety of worshippers in the area.
Family members, church leaders and well-wishers gathered to welcome the victims home, offering prayers of gratitude and celebrating their safe return.
The incident had drawn attention to the growing security challenges in parts of Kwara State, with residents renewing calls on security agencies and the government to strengthen measures to protect lives and places of worship from criminal attacks.
