PDP Cross River Faction Declares Julius Udayi Authentic Governorship Candidate for 2027
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, under the leadership it says is headed by Tanimu Turaki (SAN), has reaffirmed Julius Udayi as its authentic governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Udayi said he was addressing the public alongside the party’s recognized candidates for the three senatorial seats, eight House of Representatives constituencies, and 25 State House of Assembly constituencies.
According to Udayi, the briefing was convened to address what he described as “misleading claims” by individuals allegedly presenting themselves as PDP candidates under a different platform.
He maintained that the Tanimu Turaki (SAN)-led National Working Committee remains the legitimate leadership of the PDP, citing judgments of the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court as the basis for the group’s position.
Udayi stated that all candidates unveiled at the briefing emerged through the party structure recognized by the Turaki-led leadership and should be regarded as the authentic flag bearers of the PDP in Cross River State.
He urged party members, supporters, stakeholders, security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and the general public to disregard any contrary claims that could create confusion ahead of the 2027 elections.
The PDP governorship candidate also reaffirmed the group’s commitment to democratic principles, peaceful political engagement, and providing credible leadership for the people of Cross River State.
Udayi appealed to Cross River residents to continue supporting the faction he represents, expressing confidence that it is the legitimate platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
The development comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP, with different factions laying claim to the party’s structure and candidates in various parts of the country. The disagreements are expected to remain a key issue as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
