The Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Prof. Francisca Bassey, has commenced a comprehensive inspection of lecture halls and academic facilities across the institution to ensure the smooth resumption of academic activities following the suspension of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.
The inspection tour covered lecture theatres, classroom blocks, faculties, and other academic units across the university. The exercise was designed to assess compliance with the University’s directive on the immediate resumption of teaching and learning after the industrial action was called off.
Accompanied by members of the University’s management team, Prof. Bassey visited the newly completed Faculty of Education building, the new Science Blocks, and the University’s cafeteria, where she interacted with lecturers and students during ongoing lectures. She also received firsthand reports on the progress of academic activities across the campuses.
As part of the monitoring exercise, the Vice Chancellor inspected the Postgraduate School, where she was received by the Dean, Prof. Emmanuel Obi, alongside the Director of Administration, Mrs. Saraya Ofem. During the visit, she toured administrative offices, the conference hall, the ICT Unit, and monitored ongoing postgraduate examinations.
Speaking with the UNICROSS Media Team after the inspection, Prof. Bassey expressed concern over the slow pace of full academic resumption in some departments and urged students to attend lectures consistently while calling on lecturers to intensify teaching efforts.
She stressed the importance of recovering lost academic time and maintaining the University’s academic calendar without further disruption.
The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to academic excellence, noting that the inspection and monitoring exercise would continue until full academic activities are restored across all UNICROSS campuses.
The inspection team included the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Stella-Maris Okey; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Thomas Ojikpong; the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Victor Ndifon; and the Chief Security Officer, Superintendent Iwara Ibiang.
The renewed monitoring initiative reflects the University’s determination to restore normal academic operations and ensure students complete the academic session without unnecessary delays.
