FIFA Confirms Suspensions Following Argentina-Spain Clash
FIFA has confirmed a series of disciplinary suspensions following the post-match incidents involving Argentina and Spain, with several players set to miss upcoming national team fixtures.
Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has received the heaviest punishment, with a 10-game suspension and a $90,000 fine. Fellow Argentina international Nahuel Molina has been handed a seven-game ban, also accompanied by a $90,000 fine.
Thiago Almada has been suspended for one game and fined $30,000, while Argentina assistant coach Roberto Ayala has received a three-game suspension and a $30,000 fine.
Barcelona and Spain midfielder Pablo Gavi has also been punished with a one-game suspension and a $30,000 fine.
The sanctions follow disciplinary proceedings related to incidents surrounding the Argentina-Spain clash. FIFA has confirmed that the suspensions apply specifically to national team matches, meaning the affected players will serve their bans when representing their respective countries.
Paredes’ 10-match suspension is the most significant of the punishments and could keep him out of a substantial portion of Argentina’s upcoming international fixtures.
The decisions add another chapter to the fallout from the highly anticipated Argentina-Spain encounter, with both football associations now expected to manage the impact of the suspensions on their future international campaigns.
