The Cross River State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 20-year-old man, Uwem Daniel Akpan, who was allegedly stabbed during a misunderstanding at Peters Street, Awi, Calabar, on August 31, 2026.
According to the Police Command, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m., following which the victim was rushed to the Naval Reference Hospital, Calabar.
Akpan was subsequently confirmed dead at the hospital, while his remains were later recovered by his family.
16-Year-Old Suspect Arrested
The Police Command said a 16-year-old male suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.
Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing and the alleged involvement of the teenager.
The case is being processed for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Calabar, for further investigation and appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
Police Urge Public to Remain Calm
The Cross River State Police Command urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
The Command assured residents that the circumstances surrounding the death would be thoroughly investigated and that appropriate action would be taken based on established facts and the law.
The Police said further information would be made available as the investigation progresses.
