Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola has expressed satisfaction with the club’s summer transfer activity, saying his attention is now firmly on getting the best out of the squad available to him.
The Reds completed four notable additions during the summer window, with France international winger Bradley Barcola the headline signing.
Liverpool agreed a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Barcola worth an initial £106 million, with the transfer potentially rising to £123 million through add-ons. The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract with the Premier League club.
The winger joins Victor Muñoz, Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araújo, who arrived on loan, as part of Iraola’s rebuilding of the Liverpool squad.
Speaking after the transfer window closed, Iraola said he was happy with the players Liverpool brought in, while acknowledging that the club had considered other options before deciding against certain deals for sporting or financial reasons.
The Spanish coach also stressed that his priority is now to develop the players at his disposal rather than dwell on the transfer business that was not completed.
Barcola could make his Liverpool debut when the Reds travel to face Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Friday.
The France international has already trained with his new teammates and is available for selection. However, Iraola admitted that whether the winger starts will depend on his assessment of the player, particularly because he did not feature in PSG’s pre-season matches.
Liverpool are still searching for their first Premier League victory of the season after opening their campaign with consecutive 2-2 draws against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest.
Iraola will now hope his new-look squad can turn the club’s significant summer investment into results on the pitch.
