The Founder and Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has sparked conversations with a strong message on national unity, equality and shared ownership of Nigeria.
In a statement attributed to him, the cleric stressed that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens, regardless of their ethnic, religious or political affiliations.
Oyedepo reportedly said that neither Muslims nor politicians could claim exclusive ownership of the country, insisting that Nigerians are equal stakeholders in the nation’s affairs.
“Muslims don’t own Nigeria, politicians don’t own the nation. We’re not tenants to the Fulanis, we own this country together,” he was quoted as saying.
His remarks emphasise the importance of national identity and the need for Nigerians to recognise one another as equal citizens rather than viewing the country as belonging to any particular religious, ethnic or political group.
The statement has also drawn attention to ongoing conversations about unity, inclusion and the rights of citizens across Nigeria’s diverse communities.
Nigeria is home to more than 250 ethnic groups and multiple religious communities, making national cohesion and mutual respect important issues in the country’s social and political discourse.
Oyedepo, who leads one of Nigeria’s largest Christian congregations, has frequently addressed national issues, including leadership, governance and the country’s future.
His latest attributed remarks have continued to generate discussions about citizenship, belonging and the shared responsibility of building a united Nigeria.
