Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, declaring that its ongoing reforms are beginning to yield positive results while reaffirming the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting the government’s development agenda.
Akpabio made the remarks on Friday, October 2, 2026, after leading a delegation of federal lawmakers to visit President Tinubu at his residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the Senate President said the legislature believes the administration is making progress in addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.
According to him, the National Assembly is determined to remain a “worthy partner” to the Tinubu administration by providing the necessary legislative support to advance national development.
“We believe he is doing well. These reforms are working and, as far as we are concerned, insecurity is abating and people are able to sleep well,” Akpabio said.
He acknowledged that some challenges persist across the country but maintained that the government’s reform efforts are contributing to improvements in key areas.
Akpabio also highlighted the National Assembly’s role in supporting the administration through legislative changes, particularly the overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system and the review of outdated laws.
He cited the passage of four major tax reform laws as an example of cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government, noting that the measures are designed to modernise the country’s economic framework.
The Senate President added that lawmakers would continue to expedite the consideration of important bills and presidential nominations aimed at facilitating the implementation of government policies.
He further called on Nigerians to embrace unity, patriotism and mutual understanding, regardless of their ethnic or religious differences, stressing that national progress requires collective responsibility.
Akpabio maintained that the National Assembly would sustain its partnership with the Tinubu administration, describing lawmaking as a critical instrument for driving economic transformation and improving the country’s fortunes.
His remarks come amid ongoing public discussions about the impact of the Federal Government’s economic reforms, particularly their effects on the cost of living and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
