kebbi Governor Makes Fresh Move to Tackle Banditry in Bagudo

Written by Mary Bassey

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a military base in Bagudo Local Government Area following renewed bandit attacks that have claimed lives and forced residents to flee their communities.

The governor gave the assurance on Saturday, October 3, during a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman, over the killing of the Village Head of Lafagu and other victims of the recent attacks.

Idris described the incidents as barbaric and deeply disturbing, assuring residents that his administration would work closely with security agencies to flush out armed groups operating in the area.

He stressed that his government would not relent in its efforts to protect lives and property, adding that the proposed military base would form part of intensified measures to restore lasting peace and security.

The governor also expressed concern over the displacement of residents, many of whom have been forced to abandon their homes and seek refuge in safer locations.

He assured the affected communities that the government was working to create conditions that would allow displaced persons to return safely to their villages.

During the visit, Idris also inspected some Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, where he sympathised with victims and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to their safety, welfare and eventual return to their ancestral homes.

He urged residents to remain calm, exercise patience and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help identify and apprehend criminal elements.

The governor further cautioned against taking the law into their own hands, emphasising the importance of collective efforts in addressing the security challenges.

The renewed attacks have heightened concerns over insecurity in Bagudo, particularly in communities around Kaoje, where residents have continued to face threats to their lives, livelihoods and property.

The proposed military base is expected to strengthen security presence in the area and support ongoing efforts to prevent further attacks and restore confidence among affected communities.
