The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has questioned his exclusion from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adebutu raised concerns on Sunday over the circumstances surrounding his omission, saying the development raised “serious questions”.
His name and that of his running mate, Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, were missing from the final list published by INEC on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
According to reports, the omission has left the PDP without a governorship candidate or deputy governorship candidate on the commission’s published list for Ogun State.
Adebutu reportedly expressed concern that the names of other PDP candidates contesting for the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate appeared on the relevant lists, while his name and that of his running mate were absent.
The development has raised questions about the party’s participation in the February 6, 2027, governorship election in the state.
Reports indicate that the omission comes amid allegations that Adebutu’s name was missing from the PDP membership register submitted to INEC. However, the Ogun State chapter of the party has rejected the allegations, insisting that Adebutu is a registered member and that the party complied with the relevant requirements.
INEC has not publicly provided a specific explanation for the exclusion of the PDP governorship ticket from the final list.
Under Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, a political party whose nominated candidate’s name is missing from the published list is required to notify INEC in writing, supported by an affidavit, within 14 days of publication.
The situation leaves the PDP facing uncertainty over its participation in the Ogun governorship contest as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
