Uche Ogbodo Tells Women What to Do When Marriage Stops Working

Written by Mary Bassey

Nollywood actress Uche Ogbodo has advised women in unhappy marriages to prioritise their happiness and self-worth rather than remain in relationships where their needs are not being met.

The actress, in an interview with Saturday Beats, also criticised infidelity in marriage, insisting that faithfulness should be mutual between partners.

Ogbodo described herself as an advocate of fairness in marriage, arguing that men should take responsibility for their actions instead of making excuses for cheating.

“I am an advocate for 50-50 in marriage. If you want me to be faithful to you, stay faithful to me,” she said.

She questioned why some men struggle to remain faithful despite expecting loyalty from their wives, adding that sexual desires should not be used to justify infidelity.

The actress further encouraged women to understand their worth, identify their relationship deal-breakers and recognise when a marriage is no longer meeting their emotional needs.

According to her, women should love themselves enough to walk away from relationships that leave them unhappy rather than endure suffering indefinitely.

“I am not an advocate for suffering and smiling. If it is not working, you don’t have to die there,” she stated.

Ogbodo also warned that abuse in relationships goes beyond physical violence, explaining that emotional and psychological abuse can damage a woman’s confidence and make her feel worthless.

She noted that making a woman feel inferior to another woman, including a partner’s mistress, could amount to emotional and psychological abuse.

However, the actress acknowledged that not all men engage in infidelity, noting that some understand the responsibilities and principles of marriage and remain committed to their partners.

Her comments have highlighted the importance of mutual respect, faithfulness and emotional well-being in relationships.
