Erik ten Hag Claims Former Club Failed to Keep Promises After Contract Renewal

Former manager Erik ten Hag has opened up about the circumstances surrounding his contract renewal, claiming that the promises made to him by the club were ultimately not fulfilled.

Speaking to The Athletic, the Dutch coach explained that he was unwilling to continue with just one year remaining on his contract, insisting that an additional year was necessary for both parties to move forward together.

“I wouldn’t go on with only one year left, so I said, ‘I need an extra year and we have to do it together,’” Ten Hag revealed.

However, the former manager suggested that his decision to renew was based on assurances from the club’s hierarchy that were never honoured.

“They promised me LOYALTY, they promised me backing, they promised communication, that we get aligned,” he said.

“But they didn’t keep the promises,” Ten Hag added.

His comments have now raised questions about the relationship between the Dutch manager and the club’s leadership, particularly regarding the support and communication he expected following his contract extension.

Ten Hag’s revelations offer further insight into the disagreements behind the scenes and the circumstances that shaped his time at the club.
