TERRORS OF UNICAL STAFF QUARTERS APPREHENDED.

A gang of thieves terrorizing the university community, especially, the UNICAL staff quarters have been apprehended by officials of the Security Department of the institution.

Parading the suspects, one Jerry Tochukwu, 26; Paul Bassey, 22 and David Terlumun Waapera, 26, the Acting Chief Security Officer, Capt. Austine O. Bisong rtd. said his men have been on the trail of the gang for a while now.

Capt Bisong informed the media that the gang has been involved in various criminal activities including stealing of armoured cables and burglary.

They are also fingered in the theft of a \”tokunbo\” Hilux engine meant for the official vehicle of the Deputy Director of Works – mechanical.

Responding to questions, the suspects confessed to stealing the engine, but, stressed they did not know it was stolen at the time as they were only assisting one Lee, currently at large, to load the engine into the booth of his Honda car.

Probed further, David Waapera said they took the engine to a yet- to -be identified buyer in Bogobiri where it was sold for a paltry sum of 30,000 naira.

Meanwhile, the Ag, CSO has reiterated his commitment to ensure the university is rid of all nefarious persons with questionable character, this is even as he assured that the suspects would be handed over to the authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
