CRS Commences ITSON In Calabar.

Earlier on, the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Deaconess Mrs. Abasi offiong Offiong declared open the Cross River State ongoing \”Integrated Training for Surveillance Officers in Nigeria ITSON, a competency based field epidemiology program aimed at improving disease surveillance and response to priority diseases.

The training exercise which took place at Marian Hotel, Calabar has Dr. Nwachukwu Williams as the team lead and Pastor Inyang Ekpenyong the State Epidemiologist as the training Coordinator.

The DG, Deaconess Mrs. Abasioffiong while addressing the trainees charged them to take the ample opportunity before them very seriously as it\’s bid to empower them for a serious Job ahead. According to her, aside preparing them for the task ahead, it\’s an exercise that will empower them personally and boost their competency level thereby adding to their knowledge in that area. She reminded them that \”No knowledge is a waste and that Knowledge is power\”. Additionally, she said that the knowledge gained here has a wider application and usefulness which also in a way will help the state to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

She ended by thanking the organizers, the state government as well as all participants for their efforts so far and as well appreciated sponsors/partners including WHO, NCDC, AFENET and REDISSE for always standing by the health sector to ease the burdens placed on health workers.

The Integrated Training for Surveillance Officers in Nigeria (ITSON) is an integrated training programme that incorporates global best practices in disease surveillance training. It is a competency-based field epidemiology training aimed at improving disease surveillance and response to priority diseases.
