Real Madrid defender is expected to miss the most of the season.

A few days after goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois had a similar injury, Real Madrid defender Eder Militao is expected to miss the most of the season.

The Brazilian defender suffered an injury during Los Blancos\’ 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday at San Mames and departed the field in tears.

In a statement released on Sunday, Madrid stated that Militao had an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his left knee.

The 25-year-old will undergo surgery for the injury in the next few days, the club has confirmed.

To replace Courtois, Madrid is prepared to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea on a temporary basis.

German international Antonio Rudiger and adaptable defender Nacho, who can play alongside David Alaba, are options for Militao\’s replacement in the squad.

Prior to the start of the season, Courtois hurt his knee during practice on Thursday and will need surgery.
