Adeleke Reveals What Osun Voters Must Do on August 15

Written by Mary Bassey

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said the August 15 governorship election is about more than winning another term, describing it as an opportunity for the people of the state to send a strong message to the All Progressives Congress over the need to respect the democratic will of voters.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Thursday, Adeleke accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, of using their influence within the ruling party at the federal level to undermine Osun State because residents voted him into office in the 2022 governorship election.

The governor alleged that the state had faced political and administrative challenges as a result of its electoral choice, insisting that the people should never be punished for exercising their constitutional right to vote.

According to Adeleke, the forthcoming governorship election presents another opportunity for Osun residents to reaffirm their commitment to democracy and make it clear that their votes and voices must always be respected.

“That is why the August 15 election is more than just winning. It is about securing a decisive victory that sends a clear and unmistakable message to the APC: the people of Osun State must always be respected, their democratic choice must be honoured, and no one should ever seek to punish them for exercising their constitutional right to vote,” the governor wrote.

Adeleke also urged eligible voters to remain peaceful and participate actively in the electoral process, expressing confidence that the outcome of the election would reflect the collective will of the people. The APC had yet to issue an official response to the governor’s allegations as of the time of filing this report.
