ARD UCTH join the 36 state FREEDOM WALK FOR DR GANIYAT POPOOLA WHO HAS BEEN IN CAPTIVITY FOR OVER 8 MONTHS
On August 16, 2024, the Association of Resident Doctors, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (ARD-UCTH) took a bold step towards freedom and justice. In accordance with the mandate of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors\’ ENEC meeting held on August 11, 2024, the association organized a peaceful Freedom Walk to protest the unjust and inhumane incarceration of our colleague, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola of National Eye Centre Kaduna.
The walk was a call to action, demanding Dr. Ganiyat\’s immediate and unconditional release. The President of ARD-UCTH, Dr. Edim Egor, spoke extensively about the need for Dr. Ganiyat\’s timely release to her family. He emphasized the importance of solidarity among members and the need to stand together against injustice and insecurity.
Past leaders and members of the association showed strong support for the peace march, demonstrating their commitment to Dr. Ganiyat\’s freedom. However, a stern warning was issued to defaulters, who would be required to pay a fine of N20,000.
The Freedom Walk was a demonstration to the association\’s unwavering dedication to their colleague and their unrelenting pursuit of justice. As we marched, we carried a united message: Freedom cometh by struggle, Amity for Dr. Ganiyat – a call for peace, freedom, and the immediate release of our beloved colleague.
August 16, 2024, will be remembered as a day of solidarity and resistance against injustice, as the ARD-UCTH stood strong in their quest for Dr. Ganiyat\’s freedom.
