Aston Villa Agree £38m Deal to Sign João Gomes from Wolves

Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign Brazilian midfielder João Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth a reported £38 million package.

Villa have finalized terms with Wolves and the player’s representatives, with the transfer consisting of a fixed €40 million fee plus an additional €5 million in performance-related add-ons. The move represents another significant investment by Unai Emery’s side as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

João Gomes has already left Wolves’ training camp to undergo his medical examinations with Aston Villa, with the transfer now entering its final stages before an official announcement.

The 25-year-old has been one of Wolves’ standout performers since arriving from Flamengo, earning a reputation as a tireless and combative midfielder. His energy, ball-winning ability, and composure in possession made him a key figure at Molineux, attracting interest from several clubs during the transfer window.

Villa moved quickly to secure the Brazilian’s signature, and the agreement is now in place pending the successful completion of his medical and final paperwork.

Gomes is expected to add strength and depth to Aston Villa’s midfield as the club prepares for another demanding campaign across domestic and European competitions.

For Wolves, the transfer marks the departure of one of their most influential midfielders, while Aston Villa continue to demonstrate their ambition with another high-profile addition to Unai Emery’s squad.

An official confirmation from both clubs is expected once the medical process has been completed.
