Atlético Madrid Agree €40M Deal to Sign Cristian “Cuti” Romero
Atlético Madrid have reached an agreement to sign Cristian “Cuti” Romero from Tottenham in a major move to strengthen Diego Simeone’s defence.
The Spanish club have agreed a €40 million package for the Argentine centre-back, with add-ons included in the overall fee. Romero is now set to undergo his medical tests before completing the move to Madrid.
Romero has been a long-term target for Atlético boss Diego Simeone, who strongly wanted the defender as part of his plans for the new season. The Argentine manager is understood to have played an important role in convincing Romero to join the club.
The 27-year-old has already given his approval to Atlético’s project, reaching an agreement on personal terms with the Spanish side several days ago. He is now expected to sign his contract soon after completing the required medical examinations.
Romero has established himself as one of the leading defenders in European football, known for his aggressive style, strong tackling and ability to play out from the back. His arrival would provide Atlético with additional quality and experience at centre-back.
The transfer represents another significant move for Simeone as Atlético look to compete at the highest level domestically and in Europe. With Romero now set to arrive, the club are preparing for the final formalities before officially announcing the signing.
If all goes according to plan, Romero will soon become an Atlético Madrid player, bringing his experience from the Premier League and Argentina’s national team to Simeone’s squad.
