Benue Government Shuts Two Schools Over Textbook Sales, Alleged Assault on Officials

Written by Mary Bassey

The Benue State Government has reportedly sealed Orenda and Opal Schools over allegations that they forced parents to purchase textbooks and assaulted officials of the Benue Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board (BEQAEB).

The action followed allegations of violations of education regulations, including the alleged compulsory sale of textbooks to parents and an incident involving officials of the state education quality assurance board.

The government’s move is aimed at addressing concerns over school practices and ensuring that private educational institutions comply with established rules and regulations.

The alleged assault on BEQAEB officials has also raised concerns about the treatment of education monitoring personnel carrying out their official duties.

However, further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault, the specific regulations violated, and the duration of the schools’ closure were not immediately available.

Parents and other stakeholders are expected to await further clarification from the relevant authorities on the next steps concerning the affected schools.
