Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma has joined Dutch giants Ajax on a free transfer following his departure from the Premier League club.
The 30-year-old Mali international has signed a contract with Ajax running until June 30, 2027, with the move taking effect immediately. Ajax’s official announcement confirms the deal, while reports had earlier indicated that the agreement would initially run until the end of the season with an option for another year.
Bissouma became a free agent after Tottenham allowed his contract to expire at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The midfielder joined Tottenham from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and made 111 appearances for the North London club during his four-year spell. However, his final campaign was limited to 11 Premier League appearances as Tottenham finished 17th.
Ajax technical director Jordi Cruyff revealed that the club had been in talks with Bissouma since August.
Cruyff said Ajax had brought in an experienced player capable of operating in several positions and expressed hope that Bissouma would become available for selection as soon as possible.
Bissouma, who began his professional career with Lille before moving to Brighton in 2018, now returns to the Netherlands to continue his career with one of European football’s historic clubs.
The midfielder said he was excited to join Ajax and described the club as one of the biggest in Europe, adding that he was eager to get on the pitch and help his new.
