Mercury Edu has been Rescued.

The Cross River State Police Command has successfully rescued Faith ‘Mercury’ Edu, a 25-year-old woman who was abducted by a notorious kidnap kingpin known as “Father”. Her rescue came just hours after she raised an alarm on Facebook, pleading for help.

A Terrifying Ordeal

Edu was abducted on January 21 by Michael Aboko, a.k.a. Father, who is now on the run. She endured a week of brutalization before being rescued by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad around midnight on Tuesday at Edem Street, off Garden Street, in Calabar South.

Sources report that Edu was found in a frail state and has since been receiving medical attention, while police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

A Desperate Call for Help

Edu, a Banking and Finance graduate from the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, managed to post an SOS message on Facebook using a POS device while her captor was asleep. She shared a brief video showing a wire mesh and described her location, urging people to contact the police and her family.

Mercury Edu Message

In her distress message, she wrote:

“SOS! I’ve been kidnapped and physically abused at Garden behind Watt Market. I am posting from a POS because the kidnapper is asleep. His name is ‘Father.’ Go to Atakpa Police Station, the street opposite Garden Church (where Redeemed Church is) and ask the locals to direct the police. He has been hitting me with a cutlass since 4 AM. Please contact my family on 08034511438. I can’t reply on Messenger, so I’m using Chrome from the POS system he uses for fraud. Please, I’m bleeding. Call my mom! I’m behind Mariah. Just go to Atakpa Police Station and ask for Garden, where they sell tiles. The Redeemed Church is on the left—enter that street and come far back. My kidnapper’s name is ‘Father.’ Please help!”

The video has been viewed over 5,400 times as of the time of this report.

How She Was Abducted

According to sources, Edu had been with friends when ‘Father’ confronted her and threatened that if she didn’t follow him, he and his gang would assault and kill her. Out of fear, she complied. She was then locked up for days, brutalized, and injured until her eventual rescue.

The Cross River State Police Command is actively pursuing Michael Aboko (Father) and any accomplices involved in the crime.
