The administration of Governor Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu has continued to make significant strides in infrastructure development across Cross River State, with over 608 kilometres of road projects reportedly executed between May 2023 and April 2026.
According to records released by the Government House Press Unit, the road infrastructure projects span the three senatorial districts of the state and include new road construction, rehabilitation works, dual carriageways, network roads, as well as security and institutional road interventions.
The projects form part of Governor Otu’s commitment to improving transportation, boosting economic activities, enhancing security access, and opening up rural communities under the administration’s “Season of Sweetness” agenda.
Southern Senatorial District Records Massive Infrastructure Expansion
The Southern Senatorial District recorded the highest number of interventions with several newly constructed roads, rehabilitated highways, and urban road networks across Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Odukpani, and Akpabuyo areas.
New Road Construction in the South
Major projects executed include:
- Adiabo Eseku Road – 8.4km
- Ndon Nwong–Atan Odot–Ekpene Eki Road – 17km
- Okurikang–Obot Oko–Akpap Okoyong Road – 5.23km
- Akani Obio/Ukpahata Road – 3.5km
- Uyanga Ifumkpa/Iko Road – 10km
- Nsan–Oban Road & Bridge – 28.025km
- Several urban roads within Calabar South and Municipality
Total New Roads in Southern District: Approximately 99.5km
Rehabilitated Roads
The administration also rehabilitated key roads including:
- Murtala Mohammed Highway & Marian Road – 19.17km
- Parliamentary Extension – 6.6km
- Jonathan Bypass – 6km
- Esuk Utan Road – 2.1km
- UCTH Road – 1.285km
- Oban-Ekang intervention – 5km
Total Rehabilitated Roads: Approximately 75.9km
Dual Carriageway & Network Roads
- Adiabo Dual Carriageway – 10km
Additional network roads executed include:
- Okoro Agbor Network
- Ikot Ekpo Eyo–Esuk Mbat Network
- Ekong Nyong Network
- Otomo & Etinyin Abasi Network
- Lincoln & Ikono Network

Security & Institutional Road Projects
Road interventions were also extended to security formations and government institutions including:

- Air Force Base

- 13 Brigade

The Central Senatorial District also witnessed multiple road projects aimed at improving connectivity and easing movement across communities.

- Mkpani–Agoi Road – 5km
- Ofumbongha Road – 12km
- Boki East-West Road – 17km
- Nde 3 Corners–Etanawan Road – 2km
- Multiple Yakurr urban roads
Total New Roads in Central District: Approximately 49.9km
Rehabilitated Roads
- Etomi Road – 1.5km
- 4 Corners–Okim Osabor–Bokomo Road – 4km
- Mile 2 Road – 1.5km
- Sweet Mother Street – 1km
- Oche Dore maintenance – 0.75km

Network Roads

Northern Senatorial District Witnesses Major Highway Development
The Northern Senatorial District recorded some of the state’s biggest road infrastructure interventions, particularly the ongoing dualization project linking major northern communities.

- Yahe–Wanokom–Wanikade Road – 5km
- Yache–Afilokpa Road – 3km
- Ndok Junction–Mbube Road – 10km
- Mfom Okpoma Road – 25km
- Sankwala Ring Road – 3.5km
- Beyaga–Ketiang Road – 4km
- Sankwala–Kuben Road – 5km
- Several Ogoja township roads
Total New Roads in Northern District: Approximately 57.2km
Rehabilitated Roads
- Ndok Junction–Abakpa–Igoli–Monaya Road – 12km
- GRA/Gomora Roads – 1.015km
- Ishibori–Cathedral Road – 1.9km
- Sankwala–Beyaga Road – 3km
Total Rehabilitated Roads: Approximately 17.9km
Major Dual Carriageway Project
- Dualization of Mfom–Okuku–Abuochiche–Obudu Ranch Road – 145km
