The Special Adviser to the Governor on Hospitality,Hon. Albert Alkusi, led a delegation to receive His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar during his one-day visit to Cross River State. The Sultan’s visit was in connection with the highly anticipated Muslim Unity Conference, organized by the Muslim community in the state, aimed at promoting peace, unity, and progress across Nigeria.
The Muslim Unity Conference, a significant event, seeks to foster harmony in diversity by encouraging interfaith dialogue and collaboration. This year’s conference emphasizes the crucial role of peace as a unifying factor in every society and nation.
Notably, this year marks the return of the Peace and Unity Conference to Calabar, 14 years after it was last held in the city. The 2024 edition is expected to build on the successes of previous conferences, with leaders from across the country converging to advocate for national harmony.
Upon his arrival, as narrated by the SA Hon. Albert Alkusi, the Sultan of Sokoto paid a courtesy visit to the Obong of Calabar, to formally announce his presence and extend an invitation to the monarch to participate in the peace conference. This gesture symbolized the unity between religious and traditional institutions in the promotion of peace in the state.
Following his meeting with the Obong, the Sultan extended his visit to the Governor of Cross River State, where he officially informed him of his presence and invited the Governor to serve as the keynote speaker at the conference.
The Governor warmly received the Sultan’s invitation, expressing his gratitude for the Sultan’s visit and assuring him of his commitment to attend and contribute meaningfully to the conference. The Governor lauded the Sultan’s efforts in fostering peace and unity across the nation and commended his leadership, which has been a beacon of hope and stability.
In turn, the Sultan expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and praised the Governor’s administration for its exemplary leadership and dedication to fostering peaceful coexistence in Cross River State. His Eminence reaffirmed his support for the state’s continuous strides toward development and harmony.
