New Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro Tonali has revealed the key reason behind his decision to join the North London club, saying a brief conversation with manager Roberto De Zerbi was enough to convince him.
The Italy international completed a reported club-record £100 million move to Tottenham from Newcastle United, ending weeks of speculation over his future despite attracting interest from several top European clubs.
Speaking after his unveiling, Tonali explained that his long-standing relationship with De Zerbi, along with their shared ties to Brescia in Italy, made the decision an easy one.
According to the midfielder, his first meeting with the Tottenham boss lasted only 10 minutes before he became certain that Spurs was the right destination for the next stage of his career.
Tonali said De Zerbi’s football philosophy, ambition for the club, and clear vision for the future played a major role in influencing his choice.
The 26-year-old is expected to strengthen Tottenham’s midfield as the club prepares for the new Premier League season, with supporters hoping he will play a key role in their pursuit of domestic and European success.
