Mayorkun Warns Upcoming Artistes Against Copying Wizkid’s Mysterious Lifestyle

Written by Mary Bassey

Nigerian singer Mayorkun has cautioned upcoming artistes against trying to adopt the mysterious public image of superstar Wizkid, warning that the strategy could make them fade away without gaining recognition.

The singer reportedly advised emerging musicians to be careful about copying the approach of established stars, stressing the importance of building their own identities in the competitive Nigerian music industry.

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is known for keeping a relatively low public profile at certain periods of his career, despite his massive influence in the Afrobeats scene.

However, Mayorkun suggested that what works for an established artiste may not necessarily work for someone just starting out in the industry.

According to the singer, upcoming musicians who attempt to act mysterious like Wizkid without first establishing a strong fan base risk being overlooked by the public.

His remarks highlight the challenges facing emerging artistes as they try to gain attention, build loyal audiences and establish themselves in the music business.

While some established musicians can maintain public interest without frequent appearances, newcomers often need consistent engagement with fans and strategic promotion to grow their careers.

Mayorkun’s comments have drawn attention to the debate over whether upcoming artistes should emulate the lifestyles of successful musicians or develop their own approaches to fame and audience engagement.
