Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested two men suspected of cattle rustling in Kiru Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as 45-year-old Jamilu Sa’adu and 37-year-old Nura Abdullahi, were apprehended at a mining checkpoint along the Tudun Wada–Kiru Road, around Rahama Round.
The arrest was confirmed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
According to the statement, the suspects were arrested at about 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday while allegedly transporting a suspected rustled cow in a Sharon Galaxy vehicle with registration number JJN 606 AE.
“The suspects, Jamilu Sa’adu, 45, and Nura Abdullahi, 37, were apprehended in the early hours of Tuesday at about 0300hrs while conveying a suspected rustled cow in a Sharon Galaxy vehicle with registration number JJN 606 AE,” the statement said.
The interception followed checks carried out by NSCDC operatives at the checkpoint, where the vehicle and its occupants were stopped for inspection.
The command said the suspects were taken into custody for further investigation to establish the ownership of the cow and determine their alleged involvement in cattle rustling.
The development comes amid continued security operations in Kiru and other parts of Kano State aimed at tackling cattle rustling, banditry and other criminal activities.
In June, NSCDC operatives in Kiru LGA also foiled an attempted cattle-rustling operation and rescued two abducted persons after responding to a distress call in the Bakin Komau area.
The corps has continued to urge residents to provide security agencies with timely information on suspicious activities to strengthen efforts to protect lives and property.
The latest suspects are expected to remain in custody while investigations continue, after which they may be prosecuted if sufficient evidence is established.
