The Ogun State Government has approved a ₦50,000 cash palliative for each of the 3,050 members of the 2026 Batch C, Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) undergoing their orientation programme in Sagamu.
The initiative, approved by Governor Dapo Abiodun, is aimed at easing the financial burden on the corps members amid prevailing economic challenges.
According to a statement by the state government, the disbursement of the funds commenced on Monday, October 19, 2026, with each eligible corps member expected to receive ₦50,000 to help cover personal expenses and other essential needs during the orientation period.
The intervention is intended to improve the welfare of the young Nigerians as they begin their national service and adjust to living away from their families and familiar environments.
Government Donates 500 Mattresses
Beyond the cash support, the Ogun State Government has also approved the donation of 500 mattresses to the NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu.
The additional support is expected to improve accommodation conditions at the camp, particularly as the state continues to receive corps members for the national service programme.
The government noted that the growing number of corps members deployed to Ogun has increased the need for improved facilities and essential amenities at the orientation camp.
The intervention reflects the state government’s efforts to promote the comfort and welfare of corps members throughout their orientation exercise.
The NYSC scheme plays an important role in promoting national unity, cultural integration and community development, with corps members contributing to sectors such as education, healthcare and other public services during their service year.
The government has also encouraged corps members to embrace discipline, patriotism and selfless service while making meaningful contributions to their host communities.
