The Ondo State Government has taken steps to strengthen the availability of essential healthcare commodities through a partnership with the LifeSpring Development Foundation (LSDF).
The collaboration is aimed at improving the management of health commodities across the state, with particular attention to sexual and reproductive health supplies used in family planning, maternal and child healthcare, and other reproductive health services.
Under the arrangement, the state is expected to strengthen its forecasting, quantification, record-keeping and data management systems to ensure that health facilities have adequate supplies while reducing the risk of shortages, overstocking and wastage.
The initiative was highlighted during a two-day commodity forecasting and quantification training organised for health workers in the state.
Speaking during the training on Friday, the Reproductive Health Coordinator and Deputy Director of Family Health at the Ondo State Ministry of Health, Dr Toyin Adeyalo-Ogundare, said the partnership had contributed to improving access to reproductive health services for women of reproductive age and children in the state.
She explained that accurate forecasting and quantification were important in determining the type and quantity of commodities required by health facilities.
According to her, better data would enable health authorities to plan effectively, identify gaps in supply and ensure that available commodities are distributed where they are most needed.
The partnership is expected to support the state’s efforts to improve family planning services and strengthen maternal, newborn and child health interventions by ensuring that essential commodities are available when required.
The development also forms part of broader efforts by health stakeholders to strengthen supply-chain systems and promote data-driven decision-making in sexual and reproductive healthcare across Ondo State.
