The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Kehinde Makinde, popularly known as Pastor Kenny, over an alleged ₦2.5 million fraud involving members of a fellowship in the state.
Makinde was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, following allegations that he collected money from 18 fellowship members in Saje, Adatan, Ogun State, under the guise of organising a government-sponsored pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly promised each of the participants ₦2 million as part of the purported arrangement.
The police further alleged that Makinde had been involved in manipulating unsuspecting individuals under the guise of providing spiritual deliverance across Ogun, Oyo and Osun states.
The suspect’s activities reportedly came under police investigation after complaints were made concerning the alleged financial dealings surrounding the proposed pilgrimage.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists on Monday.
Babaseyi said the command was investigating the allegations against Makinde, while efforts were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain cautious and verify claims made by individuals soliciting money under the guise of government programmes, religious activities or other official arrangements.
Makinde remains an alleged suspect at this stage and is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
