Police Arrests Human Right Lawyer Dele Farotimi.
Dele Farotimi, human right attorney, has been detained by the Nigerian police at Zone 2 in Lagos after a petition was submitted by Tony Elumelu, the chairman of United Bank for Africa.
Farotimi sounded alarm about alleged threats to his life from certain Nigerian elites, reportedly in collaboration with security agencies and some legal professionals.
However, In his statement, “They Want to Silence Me,” Farotimi revealed receiving a Zone 2 Police Command invitation letter on November 11.
He then stated that the letter instructed him to appear at the station on November 13 at 10:00 AM Nigeria time.
Reasons For Attorney Farotimi’s Arrest
Reports indicate that the petition claims human right lawyer Dele publicly defamed Elumelu through his statements.
Omoyele Sowore, human right activist, pro-democracy campaigner disclosed Farotimi’s arrest in a post on his X account on Tuesday.
It is important to remind the Nigerian police that their institution should not be use to settle personal grievances, and we, the citizens of Nigeria therefore will no longer tolerate such actions. “Sowore said”
Thereby condemning Farotimi’s arrest and demands for his immediate release.
