Sukubo Sara Igbe Sukubo Explains what truncated the NYCN Election in Cross River State

Negligence of the constitutional provisions of the National Youth Council of Nigeria is what truncated the conduct of the Youth Council Election in Cross River State.-Sukubo Sara Igbe Sukubo

According to the National Youth Council Constitution, without prejudice the minimum age for an aspirant to any elective position is 18-35years.

Sukubo Sara Igbe Sukubo Explained that on his arrival in Cross River State, he got the application forms of the 27 candidates scheduled for the election, he fact checked their details in the NIN Portal using their names and phone numbers, their original information came out, he discovered that about 25 of them were over aged and not eligible to contest the election.

Only two people were eligible in accordance to the stipulated age bracket stated by the Constitution of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.

Sukubo ‏informed the Government of Cross River State through the Deputy Governor that the Election can’t continue with such irregularities because he can’t project over aged candidates by setting a wrong precedence.

It is clearly stated in the National Youth Policy signed by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that it is only youths within the age bracket of 18-35years that are eligible to form youth bodies in Nigeria.

After series of consultations and Interactive sessions with critical stakeholders we  decided to provide a waiver based on consensus and that has enabled us to put in place a substantial youth executive in Cross River State.

AMB. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo
PRESIDENT NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA
