The Chairman of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Wasiu Lawal, has warned landlords and residents against violating environmental sanitation rules, particularly through improper disposal of refuse and human waste.
Lawal issued the warning on Saturday during a Town Hall Meeting organised by the African Foundation for Environment and Development (AFED) in collaboration with the Ado-Odo/Ota Citizens Engagement Platform, with support from CIVICUS.
The chairman cautioned residents against dumping refuse and faeces into drainage channels and canals, stressing the need for proper sanitation practices to protect the environment and prevent avoidable health and flooding risks.
The meeting provided a platform for residents to engage directly with the local government leadership and raise concerns about issues affecting their communities.
Discussions focused on development priorities and challenges across the 16 wards that make up Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of collaboration between residents, civil society organisations and the local government in identifying community needs and finding practical solutions to them.
Lawal urged residents to support efforts aimed at maintaining a clean and healthy environment, while warning that sanitation violations would not be overlooked.
The Ado-Odo/Ota Citizens Engagement Platform has previously been involved in initiatives aimed at promoting citizen participation in local governance and presenting community demands to the council leadership.
