President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians not to lose hope, assuring them that the country is on the right path and that peace and development will return.
The President gave the assurance in a message delivered by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, during a special prayer session held at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Tinubu acknowledged the challenges and setbacks Nigeria has experienced since gaining independence, describing the country’s journey as a mixture of difficulties, opportunities and achievements.
According to him, Nigeria has matured as a nation and is now at a point where the mistakes and missed opportunities of the past must be addressed.
He said his administration was working to correct what he described as the cumulative mistakes of previous governments while pursuing reforms aimed at moving the country forward.
“Nigeria is on the right path. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Nigeria has finished making sacrifices for this country to be great again,” Tinubu said in the message delivered by Abbas.
The President also assured Nigerians that the country would witness improved peace and development, urging citizens to remain hopeful as democratic governance continues.
“Peace is coming back to this country. Development is coming back to this country. Things will get better as we progress in this democracy,” he said.
Tinubu further appealed to Nigerians to give his administration more opportunity to complete the programmes and reforms it has started.
The special prayer session was attended by senior government officials, including members of the National Assembly, ministers, governors and military chiefs.
