President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his desire to see more Nigerians embrace local production, strengthen businesses and take made-in-Nigeria products to international markets.
The President made this known on Thursday, October 1, 2026, during his Independence Day address to the nation as Nigeria celebrated its 66th anniversary.
Tinubu said his administration was placing greater emphasis on job creation, entrepreneurship and industrial growth, stressing that Nigeria’s economic future depends on increased productivity and the ability of its citizens to create opportunities.
“I want to see more Nigerians making things. I want to see more Nigerian farms feeding our cities and supplying our factories. I want to see Nigerian businesses selling Nigerian goods to the whole world,” the President said.
He also expressed his ambition to see young Nigerians establish innovative businesses capable of creating employment and contributing to the country’s economic development.
According to him, the government plans to support this vision through investments in infrastructure, access to finance, skills development, digital connectivity and initiatives aimed at reviving industries.
Tinubu further highlighted plans to harness Nigeria’s gas resources to power new industries and support businesses seeking to revive factories across the country’s industrial centres.
He noted that improving agricultural production, expanding mechanised farming and strengthening transportation networks would also help reduce production costs and make essential goods more affordable.
The President said the broader objective of his administration was to move beyond economic reforms towards achieving shared and widespread prosperity for Nigerians.
His remarks come amid ongoing discussions about local manufacturing, youth unemployment, the cost of living and the need to strengthen Nigeria’s productive capacity.
