The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has appointed new Heads for the Departments of English and Literary Studies and Zoology and Environmental Biology.
The appointments were approved by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Efanga Offiong, in separate letters dated October 2, 2026.
Prof. Idom Inyabri was appointed Head of the Department of English and Literary Studies, Faculty of Arts, for an initial three-year tenure.
His appointment takes effect from October 5, 2026, and will run until October 4, 2029.
Similarly, Dr. Udiba Ugumanim was appointed Acting Head of the Department of Zoology and Environmental Biology, Faculty of Biological Sciences, for an initial two-year period.
The appointment also took effect on October 5, 2026, and is expected to end on October 4, 2028.
In separate letters, the Vice Chancellor charged the new heads to bring their experience and expertise to bear on their assignments while ensuring effective administration and improved performance in their respective departments.
Prof. Offiong also urged the appointees to align their leadership with the mission and vision of the university administration, while upholding the institution’s values and expectations.
The Vice Chancellor further warned that the university management would sanction any Head of Department who fails to submit students’ results within the stipulated timeline.
Relevant university sections were directed to accord the new appointees the necessary courtesies associated with their offices.
Meanwhile, the former heads of the two departments were directed to ensure a proper handover to their successors.
